The Auto Bench Rest Association (ABRA) is the leading organization for competitive semi-automatic .22LR benchrest shooting. Founded to give semi-auto platforms a structured and respected place in precision shooting, ABRA has grown into a national league with sanctioned ranges.
What Is ABRA?
ABRA is a sanctioned benchrest league focused on semi-automatic .22LR rifles. Shooters compete by firing at precision targets from a benchrest setup, aiming for maximum accuracy and consistency.
• Distance: 50 yards
• Target: 20 scoring bulls + sighters
• Time Limit: 15 minutes per card
• Scoring: Best-edge scoring, max 200 points per card
🔢 ABRA Competition Classes
ABRA offers multiple classes to ensure fair competition across different rifle builds. Here’s a breakdown of each:
1. Unlimited Class
• Any semi-auto .22LR rifle that functions in semi-auto mode at all times
• All cartridges must be fed from a magazine
• No restrictions on barrel, tuner, scope, or rest
• Ideal for custom builds
2. Factory Class
• Must use a factory barrel with original markings
• Barrel diameter must not exceed .750" at the muzzle
• Re-crowning and re-chambering allowed
• Front sight must remain if present; rear sight may be removed for scope clearance
• Designed for stock rifles with minimal mods
3. Outlaw Heavy Barrel Class
• Bolt-action rifles with heavy barrels
• Tuners allowed
• One-piece or two-piece rests permitted
• No scope limitations
4. Outlaw Lite Barrel Class
• Bolt-action rifles with lighter barrels
• No tuners allowed
• One-piece or two-piece rests permitted
• No scope limitations
5. Outlaw Factory Class
• Factory bolt-action rifles
• No tuners allowed
• Two-piece rest only
• Designed for entry-level bolt-action shooters
🛠️ Recommended Equipment
• Rifle: A semi-auto .22LR platform (for ABRA classes); bolt-action for Outlaw classes
• Rest: mechanical rest or sandbags depending on class
• Scope: Highly recommended but not a requirement
• Ammo: Any .22LR rimfire
• Target: ABRA-sanctioned 11x17 targets with 20 bulls and 2 sighters

To shoot ABRA:
1. Choose Your Class: Match your rifle to the appropriate classification.
2. Register and Compete: Registration begins at 8:00 AM the day of the match.
